The Interaction Lab at Texas Tech University (#ttuixlab) is a group of scholars housed in the College of Media and Communication who research the uses and effects of interactive media, such as video games, virtual reality, awidnd social media.
The lab is directed by Dr. Nick Bowman, Associate Professor of Journalism and Creative Media Industries. He earned his PhD at Michigan State University and has been an active media psychology and communication researcher for over 15 years. He has co-authored (often with lab students and staff) over 120 peer-reviewed manuscripts and along with colleagues, has presented more than 200 manuscripts and posters at regional, national, and international conferences.
Our lab is actively seeking new researchers at all levels of expertise. Undergraduate students usually join the lab as part of a supervised independent study course, while graduate students are often funded as part of their degree programs. Our research is primarily housed in the Center for Communication Research.
In our lab, we focus on a variety of different research approaches -- from in-person experimental designs fouced on quantitative data analyses to emergent thematic analysis of online discussion forums. Along with a general focus on producing for publication high-quality and highly-cited research, we also strive to engage with various publics in the research process. Since Fall 2019, our team has produced 11 manuscripts with Top Paper honors at major conferences, and many of those papers are currently under review at academic journals. A few of those more recent projects include:
Authors marked with an asterisk (*) are student co-authors
Every semester, several students and colleagues from various degree programs and backgrounds join our lab to work with us on data collections. Research staff are involved at all stages of the process, from early idea generaton and stimulus design to live data collections and analysis.
